1. Introduction

SideDraft ("we," "our," or "the Extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our Chrome extension. Our core principle is simple: your writing stays on your device.

We do not collect, store, or transmit your writing content, AI prompts, chat history, or any personal data to external servers.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

SideDraft is designed from the ground up to minimize data handling. We explicitly do not collect:

• Account information, usernames, or login credentials
• Writing content, drafts, or document text
• AI prompts, chat messages, or conversation history
• AI provider API keys, tokens, or authentication data
• Browsing history, URLs visited, or page content
• Analytics data, usage statistics, or behavioral tracking
• Cookies for tracking or profiling purposes
• Device identifiers, IP addresses, or fingerprinting data

3. Information Stored Locally

SideDraft stores data exclusively on your device using Chrome's local storage APIs. This data never leaves your browser:

3.1 Editor Drafts

Your current document content is auto-saved to chrome.storage.local. This allows you to resume your work if you close and reopen the extension. Only you have access to this data.

3.2 Snippet History

When you insert AI responses into the editor, snippets are saved locally for future reference. You can view, reuse, or delete these snippets at any time from within the extension.

3.3 Extension Settings

Preferences such as theme settings (dark/light mode), toolbar configuration, and other customization choices are stored locally.

4. Data Handling

4.1 Text Interaction with AI Platforms

When you use "Send to AI" functionality, the selected text from the SideDraft editor is placed into the AI chat input field on the platform you are using (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Grok). At that point, the text is subject to the privacy policy of that AI provider. SideDraft does not independently transmit this data — the AI platform's own interface handles the submission.

4.2 Insert from AI

When you click "Insert to Editor," text from the AI chat response is copied into the SideDraft editor. Both the source text (in the AI chat) and the destination text (in the editor) remain on your device.

4.3 Context Menu

When you use the right-click "Send to Editor" context menu on any webpage, the selected text is transferred to SideDraft's local editor storage. No data is sent to any third party.

5. Third-Party Services

SideDraft interacts with third-party AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok) but does not:

• Authenticate with or store credentials for these services
• Proxy or relay data between you and these services
• Maintain any connection to these services beyond direct DOM interaction in your browser

Your interactions with these platforms are governed by their respective privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.

6. Data Security

Since all data is stored locally within your browser, the security of your data depends on the security of your device and Chrome browser. We follow secure coding practices and do not introduce vulnerabilities that could expose your local data.

7. Children's Privacy

SideDraft does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. Our extension does not collect any personal information from any user, regardless of age.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in an updated "Last Updated" date on this page. Material changes will be communicated through the Chrome Web Store update notes or within the extension itself.
